Watt's Up!

High Plains Library District, in partnership with Xcel Energy, has added 40 portable Watts Up? meters to the collection. These easy to use meters will help you save energy and make green decisions. Watts Up? meters can be reserved for checkout through the High Plains Library District catalog. Watts Up? meters will record electrical usage in watts, display cost of energy in dollars, capture surge readings, interface with your personal computer, record duty cycles and most importantly help you save money by lowering your electricity bill. Genealogy

Volunteers and staff are available most days in the genealogy area at Centennial Park. They are ready to help you get started with your family research, or to give you help with finding information in our local resources.

Notary Services

The High Plains Library District offers free limited Notary Services. Documents must be unsigned and must be accompanied by a valid photo I.D. of the signer(s).

Weigh and Win

Panel Discussion of the Film "Photos of Angie"

Angie Zapata, a young transgender woman, was brutally murdered in Greeley in July 2008. The resulting trial claimed national attention because it was the first case in the nation to test federal hate crime legislation protecting transgender persons. Colorado’s own hate crime law had only just been amended in 2005 to include transgender status. Fully understanding the legal challenge ahead, the Weld County District Attorney’s office prosecuted the case as a bias-motivated hate crime, resulting in a successful conviction of Angie’s murderer, Alan Andrade, on April 22, 2009. The jury took just two hours to deliver their verdict.

Recently, the High Plains Library District hosted a screening of the film, Photos of Angie, on September 9th, 2011. A panel discussion followed the film screening and included the following individuals, many of whom were connected to the case and appear in the film:
