Volunteering pays back in so many ways. Yes, it meets school requirements and will help you with your college admissions, but more importantly, there is great satisfaction in knowing you are making the world a better place for all.
There's an old phrase, "Charity starts at home." The following links will provide you with local nonprofits in need of volunteers. You can start giving back at home.
High Plains Library District Teen Advisory Boards: We have several at different branches. These boards make suggestions regarding teen programming and materials. And just plain fun. Contact your local branch if you are interested.
Boulder Non-Profits Community Foundation Directory: Find a Boulder County non-profit to work with.
Salvation Army: There are volunteers opportunities that range from serving meals to organizing events.
The Community Foundation of Greeley & Weld County Non-Profit Database: Find a Weld County non-profit to work with.
Humane Society of the United States: The largest animal protection organization in the U.S. There are lots of opportunities at your local shelter.
Colorado Non-Profits: There is both a job board and an internship board offering all kinds of opportunities
National
Americorps: Volunteer opportunities abound from restoring parks to building homes to tutoring. You may volunteer anywhere in the country and receive a stipend for college.
Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD): GLAAD is dedicated to eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): PETA works to end the fur trade, factory farming, circuses, and bull fighting among the many, many unethical practices.
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People(NAACP): Promoter of civil rights for ethnic minorities in the U.S.
